COLLECTION OF DATA
Data collection is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes.
Why is collection of data important?
Data collection is important in various domains because it provides valuable insights and supports decision-making. It helps understand trends, patterns, and relationships. PRIMARY DATA
Primary data is the data that is collected for the first time through personal experiences or evidence, particularly for research. It is also described as raw data or first-hand information.
EXAMPLE
Primary data is one which an investigator collects for the first time for a particular purpose. Further, this data is 'pure' in the sense that there haven't been any statistical operations performed on them, plus they are also original. The Census of India is an example of primary data.
SECONDARY DATA
Secondary data refers to data that is collected by someone other than the primary user. Common sources of secondary data for social science include censuses, information collected by government departments, organizational records and data that was originally collected for other research purposes.
